Dancing Cebu Inmates 7 Months, 1 Week ago
Re: Dancing Cebu Inmates

First, I want to say, you don’t get to the bottom of an issue unless you argue about it. What I will show you here will be a good example of what I’m talking about. Look below for the word “HERE” and read. Then read below ==> “THE BOTTOM LINE”.

THE BOTTOM LINE:
I was very skeptical about these “dancing inmates”. I felt that these men were being exploited (used) and humiliated. Based on the response I got on the negative commentary I made months ago, I learned something. It was really an eye-opener for me. I changed my opinion and thanked all the people who helped me understand the positive effect the dancing program had on the inmates. Now I say - Go for it, Cebu inmates!

These prisoners are really fortunate. They have been given a second chance to turn their lives around. What Warden Garcia is doing is making a big difference for these young men, our people and ultimately, our country. When these prisoners come out, I’m sure most, if not all, of them will become better individuals, and much better citizens. They may do what Mr. Garcia himself did for them - that is, help people. It’s a good thing to have this happening in our country, but I must say that I continue to have some skepticism. I find it to be really weird.

I was totally against it. And now… ironically, I think it’s a very good thing.

Thanks to Mr. Byron Garcia’s effort. And… thanks to YouTube and YouTubers!

Warden Byron Garcia should be given national recognition for his creative efforts. He possibly has but I’m not aware of it. He’s doing such a terrific job for these young men and for all of us. What he’s doing doesn’t just make everybody happy but it promotes good things for humanity. What you’re seeing here is just part of a very successful rehabilitation program they have in Cebu. It’s very inspiring to me. The dancing really helps them with the issues of discipline, self esteem and team play. Not only that, they also have rehabilitation programs inside the facility beyond their entertaining dancing, such as other public or social activities which benefits all of us.

Please don’t get me wrong here. Criminals who are proven GUILTY must be punished and shouldn’t be treated like these “dancing inmates”. They should do community service and hard labor. I wouldn’t want anyone who had committed murder or rape, or whatever, dancing and entertaining the whole world. Would you?! I wouldn’t want anyone who had raped me or murdered my parent, dancing inside that facility and being broadcasted worldwide. That’s just unthinkable, if I may say so. One of my YT friends had told me that most of these inmates are there to be rehabilitated and a few of them are waiting for court trials. I hope the information I got was true because if it wasn’t, I truly DISAPPROVE of what Warden Byron Garcia is doing. Like I said, criminals who are proven guilty of serious crimes or are highly profiled criminals shouldn’t be treated like those in the dance program. It would be very shameful for all of us.

If these inmates are there to be rehabilitated, I figured these guys might have committed crimes which were not very serious, like stealing or drug dealing.

I hope you understood my point.

Here is the video of one of their performances! What can I say? What a great performance! Watch it!

Enjoy!

“Filipino, Philippines "Dancing Inmates" from Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC), a maximum security prison, were treated to a visit by Michael Jackson’s long-time choreographer Travis Payne and dancers Daniel Celebre and Dres Reid to learn performances from THIS IS IT.”

I wrote this a while back. I forgot when that was. Finally, I have the time to post this whole thing.

HERE:

Hi dearly beloved folks. What you’re about to see are two videos of dancing prisoners from Warden Byron Garcia – a YouTuber. You probably have seen these videos already. When I first saw the video “Thriller” by MJ, I was quite skeptical of it. Broadcasting Filipino prisoners dancing on YouTube? I thought, God, what’s next, Wowowee behind bars? I thought it was really crazy. But, I changed my mind because of my YT friend and those individuals who shared their opinions about this thing. Please read their comments. I really like their viewpoints; they’re matter-of-fact remarks. They’re the kind of responses I like, but not all of them, of course. I have been thinking about commenting on these videos for several months now. Now I finally did it. I really wanted to know what’s really going on, and what good would it really do for communities nationwide or worldwide. I was very interested in what people would say. I was thinking, will it change my perspective regarding this thing which I initially had thought no good for our country? Surprisingly, it did. I tried to make my comments provocative so that I would get a lot of responses and I would eventually get to the bottom of it. The meat, that is!

Please watch the videos first. Then read the comments below. I selected the ones that are funny, weird and comments that really make sense. They’re comments are really worth reading and very interesting.

Lugaitnon (This comment below was actually deleted by, I think Mr. Garcia, himself. Hahaha! That’s okay. I can understand that.)

Sir Garcia, don't use these criminals! You're just making them happy, don’t you think? What you are doing sir is no good for our Filipino communities nationwide and worldwide. This is embarrassing. If you want someone to be happy, we have a lot of poor people you can help in the Philippines, not these criminals. Besides that, this is very humiliating for the inmates.

Are you using these people for you to become famous? Famous for what?! Please stop what you are doing! You're embarrassing us Filipinos. This is really crazy.

I was trying to be serious and funny at the same time. Sa mokagat lang…

"You said it Sir Garcia makes these inmates happy. You sound an unhappy human being. Is there anything that you do for the best of other people or your country? You humiliated your own self, do something that will make people happy--- these inmates are very good entertainers & they make my day good & enjoying their performances."

“You sound an unhappy human being.” I found that to be very hilarious. I don’t know, it just made me laugh. It’s kinda cool. Haha!

Lugaitnon (2 days ago)
Yeah! You are probably the kind of individual who tolerates corruption/illegal act/ wrongdoing… Whatever! Not me, dude!

Let me ask you something: How would you feel if one of these prisoners sexually molested your daughter or sister, maybe, or even killed your parents? Will you be happy seeing this video, will you? Only in the Philippines, things like this happen. Embarrassing!

If I'm one of the prisoners, I would say, no way! I should be repenting about what I did. Also, I’m not going to let anyone force me to dance. Heck no! That would be very humiliating!

"Some of those people are probably in jail for the silliest thing, SPITTING ON THE GROUND or something ~ CRIMINALS?! The only CRIMINALS are the ones who FALSELY ACCUSED MJ - now you SWALLOW THAT PILL! "

wakkky (2 days ago)
"for me I dont think they are using the inmates to be famous.. they did this project that the inmates not treated differently and even they deserve the 2nd chance and to be happy is not because they are in jail they have no rights to be happy and its much better this way they are dancing and having fun and earning money rather that they are fighting inside right? "

Lugaitnon (2 days ago)
Sure, the inmates have the right to be happy but not this way. Let them find their own happiness. They should get what they deserved. They are there because of the crime they committed. Dancing is not a punishment. The Philippine government shouldn't allow this shameful activity. They're criminals for goodness sake!

Lugaitnon (2 days ago)
Are you using these people for you to become famous, Mr. Garcia? Famous for what?! Please stop what you are doing. You're embarrassing us Filipinos. This is really crazy. It is just plain weird.

I'm a very young lady, by the way. You should know better, what's good and what's not!

filipbong (2 days ago)
"Wow! the audacity of some poster to judge these inmates...and other people for that matter. Where is the sense of justice - of innocence until guilt is proven? Not all of the inmates are convicted criminals- many are awaiting trial .

To that poster- don't speak for all Filipinos - not everyone shares your bitterness. And it's not for you to declare that these dances are wrong and humiliating. "

"I had to watch the documentary about this particular prison, because these videos touched me very deeply. I found them so uplifting. Since the prisoners started to dance and perform, their prison is drug free with ZERO violence. It is not even allowed for anyone to shout at an inmate. This is an amazing thing. I think it is brilliant. There is so much here that encouraging, good, hopeful! "

stillpug (2 days ago)
"lugaitnon. such institutions are also called rehabilitation centers. when prisoners are set free, they call them rehabilitated.

if this makes them busy and violence free, then let them be.

Murderers and rapists here in the US and Europe are even allowed to study Law. Dancing is nothing. It is more than a punishment to tough guys."

"In any ways, the warden who advocates these performances is one of many who is making a difference!"

"yeah but we dONt have d rights to judge them of what just heard in accusing them wrongfully.. or rather irradicate them by their own faults. we should have to be overwhelmed to this inmates who love to share their talents and inspirations in making this successful inspite of their hope and seeking for justice to be freed. this is sign of which inmates are being united and not humiliated. something the world to be proud of! - this video is really amazing and indeed bloody outrageous. GREAT!"

"puede ba manuod na lang kayo sa galing ng mga tao na to,tigilan nio ang mga pagmamalinis dahil ang pagkakaiba nio lang sa kanila, itong mga ito mas ok dahil me talent sila.eh kayo ang talent nio lang ang mamintas..mga anay..ambot....talangka....go Cebu inmates...sikat kau sa mundo...kita nio dami naiinggit sa inyo...saludo ako sa inyo....go pinoy"

This kind of comment is not very helpful. I call this a childish remark. Pwe! Hahaha! The “pwe” thing, you might take that so seriously. Well, you can. It wouldn’t hurt me. Toink!

YouTubers, thank you so much for helping me understand. You guys are awesome! Thank you for all the replies you made on my comments. Mabuhay!

Makauulaw! Only in the Philippines! Makatingala kay wala'y mga Pilipino nga nag-protesta tungod niini. Sa Pilipinas ra mahitabo nga ang mga piniriso mahatagan ug maayong treatment, pasayawon pa! I bet you, lami pa ug kaon kining mga tawhana. Mga kriminal! Nagkinahanglan kini sila nga dili hatagan ug maayong pagtagad. What's going on with us, Filipinos?! Unsa ma'y gihimo sa atong government against niini? I protest!

EmPtYKaNo (2 days ago)
"You look at this too much than you believe. Would you rather have inmates violent with nothing to fill their times or for them to dance? How much of a bigot do you have to be to not at least respect who people are. You don’t have to agree but if anything only God has the right to condemn anyone not YOU. Kung naay dinhi nga naulaw, ikaw lang. Ang priso dili para torture sa tao, rehabilition na."

Lugaitnon (2 days ago)
Sure! These prisoners know what it's like to be in jail. Most of them are violent people and they're criminals. That's why they ended up there. They should get what they deserved.

Don't talk about "torture"! Rehabilitation? What?!

Sure, ako mao'y naulaw kay nasayod 'ko kung unsa kini ka masayponon nga kalihukan. Don't you see?! Wake up!

"Wow! i want to be a criminal right now, because i can forecast, on where i could be heading ;p"

Lugaitnon (3 days ago)
Right on! Hahaha! Yes, you get to become popular if you’re a criminal in Cebu, Philippines. Yup! It's embarrassing! This is intolerable. I can't believe it’s happening in my own country. I hope our Philippine government will do something about this. Gloria.... do something! It just seems like all you do is sit. Shameful!

Lugaitnon (2 days ago)
Mr. Byron Garcia.... Sir! Why don't you find some poor people and have them dance for money, instead of these criminals? What you are doing is totally wrong. Wrong! Wrong! Wrong!

realzoot (2 days ago)
"So funny... is this real jail?"

Lugaitnon (2 days ago)
Yes, it is! These prisoners are very lucky, luckier than most of our poor, hungry Filipino countrymen.
